ABOUT WEEKEND WARRIOR

Way out northwest there was this fella... fella I wanna tell ya about. Fella by the name of Christopher King. At least that was the handle his loving parents gave him, but he never had much use for it himself. Mr. King, he called himself and his band  "The Gutterballs".

Now, "The Gutterballs" - that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from. But then there was a lot about the Gutterballs that didn't make a whole lot of sense.  Now, this here story, I'm about to unfold took place back in the early '2020s - just about the time the Coronavirus pandemic began. Up until this point The Gutterballs were touring heavily and experiencing everything that comes with that; partying, meeting new people every night, missing family and friends but grinding for their shot at “the dream.”

“As the stranger in the Big Lebowski says, “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, he eats you,” King said of his forced change of pace. “The Fantasy Island EP we just released is our homage to the road. Weekend Warrior is the upside of being on the road, the excitement of new towns and crowds every night. The road is hard but fun. I wanted that good time aesthetic to come through in the music video.”

The Big Lebowski theme of the video came to Chris King when the opportunity to rent a bowling alley was made available due to new pandemic restrictions on indoor gatherings. As King sings in Weekend Warrior, “I’m trying to see that bright side of life, got to hold on to our dreams, nothing like what I thought it would be…” which rings true of life on the road and life in a pandemic.

Partnering with Video Producer Nikki Barron (kittenteeth, Converge Media) they created a COVID-19 safe space for friends to gather and get some feeling of normalcy. The Weekend Warrior video uses iconic Big Lebowski imagery to compliment the upbeat indie surf rock pace and optimistic lyrics to remind viewers that just as The Dude held on to that carpet we have to hold on to our dreams.

Say, friend, you got any more of that good Sarsaparilla?
